ALL'S FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR
- Some believe that the proverb is really just about love, and that war is only used for comparison.
Meaning: In relationships and armed conflicts, the usual rules of behavior do not apply.
- In other words, we can do anything we want in those situations to achieve our goals: "The ends justify the means."
Mini-Dialogue: Megan sees her friend Mark looking a little down.
Megan: What's wrong, Mark?
Mark: I came home late last night, and my wife's mad at me.
Megan: Of course she is!
Mark: But when I had roommates, they never got upset about stuff like that!
Megan: She's your wife, not your roommate. Once love is involved, the rules are different.
Mark: Is that why people say, "All's fair in love and war"?
Megan: Exactly!
