Cowboy Slang (I)

IDIOM: ace-high

  • MEANING: first class (as when the ace in poker or some other card game is "high" instead of "low.")
  • EXAMPLE: "That feller [guy] is ace-high in my book."
IDIOM: clean someone's plow
  • MEANING: beat someone up
  • EXAMPLE: "Hoss cleaned Little Joe's plow for giving him lip [speaking rudely to him]."
IDIOM: fork over
  • MEANING: give; hand over
  • EXAMPLE: "Hands up! Fork over the money!"
IDIOM: a goner
  • MEANING: someone or something that is gone or may soon be gone (perhaps even dead)
  • EXAMPLE: "He needs a doctor soon, or he's a goner."
