FOUR IDIOMS USING THE WORD "FIDDLE"

IDIOM: as fit as a fiddle

  • MEANING: in very good health
  • EXAMPLE: "After my vacation I feel as fit as a fiddle."

IDIOM: play second fiddle (to someone)

  • MEANING: be in a lower position
  • EXAMPLE: I'm tired of playing second fiddle to my stupid boss.

IDIOM: fiddle (around or with)

  • MEANING: do something with no purpose, or handle something carelessly
  • EXAMPLE: Stop fiddling around and get some work done!

IDIOM: fiddle while Rome burns

  • MEANING: do nothing during a crisis
  • EXAMPLE: My boss never makes a decision. We're losing money and he just fiddles while Rome burns.
