THREE IDIOMS USING THE WORD "FROG"
IDIOM: a frog in one's throat
- MEANING: a throat problem (dryness, hoarseness, etc.) that makes it difficult to speak
- EXAMPLE: "I'm sorry I can't present the report; I have a frog in my throat."
IDIOM: finer than frog's hair
- MEANING: very, very good
- EXAMPLE: "How are you, Mike?"
"Oh, I'm finer than frog's hair!" - NOTE: Frogs don't have hair, so it would be very "fine" (thin) indeed!
IDIOM: a frog strangler (or frog choker)
- MEANING: a very heavy downpour of rain
- EXAMPLE: "We'll have to cancel tomorrow’s picnic; the weatherman predicts a real frog strangler!"
- NOTE: This is used mainly in the American South.
